MEET MS. LACHARITE
Hello and welcome to the RA Jones Speech Therapy Services web page. My name is Christie LaCharite and I have been the speech and language pathologist at RA Jones since January, 2004. I am working on my 9th year here at RA Jones. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years and time here at Jones. My favorite part of my job is that I get to work with almost all of the staff and teachers in the building. My position in the building gives me the unique opportunity to work with not only the speech and language students on my caseload, but with all of the students in the building when I'm working in the classroom. This provides me with the opportunity to get to know many of the kids in the building even though I don't always get to work with them directly.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
I began my career in 1994 when I moved to Northern Kentucky from Maumee, Ohio. I was finishing my Bachelor's degree at UC and I worked part time in a private speech therapy clinic in Sharonville, Ohio. I loved that job because it's where I fell in love with kids with autism. The owner of the practice gave me the incredible opportunity to run their summer preschool for kids with autism, called Wee Talk. In 1996, I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. In 1998, I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology. I started working at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky right out of Graduate School and enjoyed working there for 18 months. At that time, I made the decision to change my career a little bit and began working in the school system. Before coming to Boone County, Kentucky, I worked in the Cincinnati area for two different school districts. I decided to change so that I could work in the same school district that my children would be going to.
I have two children, Philip and Elena. Philip is 11, getting ready to go to middle school himself. Elena will soon be 9. I love being a mom and enjoy my children more and more every year that they grow. Being that I work in a middle school and get to witness on hand the "middle school change" with my students, I'm sure watching my kids go through middle school will be very interesting. I am sure that I will love every minute of it.
In addition to loving my job at RA Jones as a speech pathologist, I also work for the state of Kentucky and the First Steps program. I work with kids that are birth to three that are delayed with communication skills. Working with all types of kids is my love and I thoroughly enjoy my career, it's very rewarding.
In my spare time (ha ha), I enjoy scrapbooking, gardening, and shopping. I also love to watch my kids play sports and I enjoy working out at the gym with my boyfriend who is a personal trainer and fitness specialist. Other favorites include traveling and reading, but I rarely get the opportunity to do these.
I'm happy that you are here at RA Jones with me! Let's have a great year!
